Hanon Systems has conducted extensive in-house and full-vehicle, real-world testing on secondary loop systems utilizing R290. The dual-loop thermal management module isolates the refrigerant from the passenger cabin, mitigating safety concerns without compromising performance. Optional additional features enable vapor injection or hot gas bypass processes to enhance cooling and heating efficiency, delivering comparable performance to traditional chemical refrigerants like R1234yf.

    Vapor Injection eCompressor

    The optimized vapor injection (VI) eCompressor allows two-stage compression within a single compressor. Optional liquid gas separator (LGS) or economizer and electronic expansion valves (EXVs) are modularized for efficient options. Improves driving range and battery cooling capability by providing a higher coefficient of performance (COP).

    Refrigerant Control Module

    A compact, integrated and highly efficient refrigeration system with vapor injection and hot gas bypass system technology. Enables the delivery of heated or cooled coolant to support the cabin, battery and power electronics. Structural refrigerant manifold for mounting the VI eCompressor, electronic expansion valves, chiller, economizer, and a combined internal heat exchanger with water cooled condenser.

Hanon Systems was the first in the industry to design and manufacture an eCompressor that operates with R744, now with more than one million units produced. Building on this leadership, second-generation designs of key components - including the R744 eCompressor, AccuIHX, refrigerant valves and heat exchangers - have been engineered to reduce R744 system complexity, driving cost reductions.

With a GWP of just one and no PFAS inside, R744 is among the most environmentally friendly refrigerants available with proven performance benefits in extreme cold weather. Each component has been validated in an on-site climatic wind tunnel and real-world testing inside vehicles to ensure reliable operation in critical modes.

    Features a durable scroll design controlled by an integrated electric motor and sophisticated electronic inverter, providing efficient cooling for conventional, heat pump and multi-loop cooling systems.

    To accommodate the R744 system’s unique requirements, this eCompressor features minimized component clearances, an improved casting process producing low porosity and high strength, a backpressure control valve for scroll stability, and a modular inverter with a single ePin interface.
